Filmmaker Matt Wolf and writer Jon Savage are collaborators on the 2011 TFI Documentary Fund recipient Teenage, an unconventional historical film about youth culture based on Savage's acclaimed book.
The two recently contributed "The Role of Youth," a video related to the film, to the New York Times' new Op-Docs section, a forum for "short, opinionated documentaries, produced with wide creative latitude and a range of artistic styles, covering current affairs, contemporary life and historical subjects." Here's what Matt told us about the piece:
I wanted to do a piece that connects the first youth movements to the current activity around Occupy Wall Street, the recently London Riots and international student protests. The Times has a huge, mostly undigitized photo and clipping archive of pre-1980s material called the Morgue. We were lucky to get access to the Morgue to find more amazing archival material to create our Op-Doc.
