Director, writer, producer and visual artist, Claire McCarthy is a directing graduate of the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (2001) and also holds a Bachelor of Design / Communications (Hons) from the University of Technology, Sydney.

Her most recent theatrical release was The Turning, an Australian omnibus feature where curated filmmakers each helmed an interconnected story from the celebrated Tim Winton novel. Claire directed the centerpiece segment starring Rose Byrne, who won an Australian Academy Award for her performance last year.

In addition, McCarthy’s award-winning feature film, The Waiting City, starring Radha Mitchell and Joel Edgerton, released in North America after premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2010. The film was nominated for three Film Critics Circle Awards, an Australian Directors Guild Award, won two Independent Film Awards for cinematography and editing, and has sold to over 40 territories globally.

Claire’s first feature premiered at the Sydney Film Festival, screened at Pusan in Korea, and was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award at the 2007 IF Awards. Her Young Filmmakers Fund documentary, Sisters was distributed on ABC Television (Australia), and is still distributed internationally. Her short film Skin garnered worldwide acclaim on the festival circuit with a noteworthy turn from a young Mia Wasikowska.

Claire is represented by CAA in North America, and RGM in Australia.
