About

Ellie is a director of documentary, fiction, and animated films that have screened in over 100 festivals worldwide.  Her animated documentary, REPETITION COMPULSION, premiered in the 1998 Berlin Film Festival and aired on PBS’ P.O.V.  It was nominated for Best Short by the 1998 International Documentary Association and for a 1998 National Emmy Award.  Her fiction short, DOG DAYS, premiered at Clermont-Ferrand and won top awards at the 2000 Hamptons and Florida Film Festivals.  Both shorts can currently be seen on the Independent Film Channel.  She has received 25 international awards, and is a 2004 Rockefeller/Ford Foundation Media Arts Fellow.  She is currently directing documentary episodes of a new PBS children’s series, POSTCARDS FROM BUSTER, and is also in development on her documentary feature, MATCH (in collaboration with filmmaker Amy Goodman).  A graduate of Harvard University, Ellie was born in Hong Kong and raised in Boston, where she currently resides.
