American Midwest

Five projects focusing on the American Midwest were selected to enter the IF/Then pitch competition at the 2017 Whitaker St. Louis International Film Festival in St. Louis on November 12, 2017.

The winner was selected by a professional jury consisting of:

Rebecca Camissa, Director of "Atomic Homefront"
Allie Freeman, Development Manager of Cleveland International Film Festival
Chris Renteria, Independent Filmmaker and Producer of "Whose Streets?"
Andrea Sporcic, Missouri Film Commission
Emily Strong, Programs and Engagement Manager for Kartemquin Films

The Jury chose "Bridges" by Sohib Boundaoui as the competition winner and also chose "On The Bit" as a second prizewinner from the following six projects:

  • In For The Long Haul – Co-Director/Producer: Jonathan Broeker, Producer: Sarah Gise – Illinois
  • Bridges  – Director: Sohib Boundaoui, Producer: Assia Boundaouis  – Chicago (Received GRANT PRIZE)
  • A Grave Situation  – Director: Michael Vollmann, Producer: Matthew Prekop  – Wisconsin
  • First Vote - Director: Yi Chen  – Ohio
  • On The Bit  – Director: Ashley Brandon, Producer: Nevo I. Shinaar  – Illinois / Ohio (Received second prize)

Key Dates:

  • Online registration opens: August 1, 2017
  • Project application deadline: September 15, 2017
  • Notification of project selection: early October
  • IF/Then pitch competition in St. Louis: November 12, 2017

Eligibility:

All stories and storytellers coming from the American Midwest. These 12 states include Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
