Another Earth: Our Favorite Science Films

We asked a few of our Sloan alums to tell us their favorite science or technology-centric films. Next up is Jay Burke, whose pick is Mike Cahill's 2011 narrative debut about the discovery of a duplicate planet in the solar system.

I have many films I like, but one of my recent favorites was Another Earth.

I really admire filmmakers working at a very very low budget, and enjoyed the way that some of the scientific content was conveyed within traditional media in the film (car radios, televisions, etc).

Whaling City, a drama about a third-generation independent fisherman struggling to keep a grasp on his way of life as costs rise and the heavily regulated fishing industry is pushed towards a corporate model of efficiency, is his first feature and screened as a work-in-progress at the 2011 Sloan Film Summit.
