
The nominees for the 33rd Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards were announced yesterday and Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund alumni from 2009, Marathon Boy and Enemies of the People were among them. Nominated through HBO, Gemma Atwal's Marathon Boy gives a fascinating look at the youngest marathon runner, Budhai Singh, who was born by a railroad track and sold to a street hawker then finally rescued by an runner of an orphanage. Nominated through its airing on POV, Rob Lemkin's Enemies of the People follows Cambodian journalist Thet Sambath (also the film's co-director) as he elicits remarkable on-camera confessions from the perpetrators of the Khmer Rouge hierarchy. The Emmys will be handed out on Oct. 1.
