
Nominations for the 28th Annual Film Independent Spirit Awards were announced today and two Tribeca All Access® grantees have gotten the nod. Aurora Guerrero's (TAA, 2006) is nominated for the John Cassavetes Award, which is given to the best feature made for under $500,000. While Joshua Sanchez's Four (TAA, 2007) received a Best Male Lead nomination for Wendell Pierce. After premiering at Sundance this past January, Mosquita y Mari has been a fixture on the festival circuit and had a theatrical release through Wolfe Releasing with a VOD and DVD release to follow next year. The film is a coming-of-age drama and love story that follows two young Chicanas growing up in South East Los Angeles. had its premiere at this year's Los Angeles Film Festival where the film's cast received the Best Performance for a Narrative Film award. It too has found success on the festival circuit, including winning the top prize at Urbanworld. Based on the acclaimed play by Christopher Shinn, the film follows a father and daughter dealing with loneliness. The Spirit Awards will take place on February 23, 2013.
