Reframe Spotlight: Sita Sings the Blues

Love is in the air and we turn to a beautifully animated rendition of a classic love story in celebration of Valentine’s Day. Filmmaker Nina Paley’s Sita Sings the Blues is inspired by the story of Sita, Hindu goddess from the Ramayana, who follows her husband Rama on a 14-year exile only to be kidnapped by an evil king. Nina Paley expertly weaves this epic tale in a whimsical animation, with musical numbers choreographed to the 1920’s jazz vocals, as well as Indonesian shadow puppets.
