The first batch of films for the 2012 edition of the Toronto International Film Festival have been announced and Tribeca All Access alum Free Angela & All Political Prisoners by Shola Lynch has been selected to screen in the Galas section of the fest. The documentary tells the dramatic story of how a young philosophy professor’s social justice activism implicates her in the botched kidnapping attempt of a judge that ends in bloody shootout. Newsweek asks: what would prompt Angela Davis, “the daughter of the black bourgeoisie, to take a desperate turn to terrorism?” Also, Ramin Bahrani, whose untitled gold documentary was selected to the 2012 TAA will be screening his latest narrative, At Any Price, at the fest. The film is set in the competitive world of modern agriculture as ambitious Henry Whipple (Dennis Quaid) wants his rebellious son Dean (Zac Efron) to help expand his family's farming empire. However, Dean has his sights set on becoming a professional race car driver. When a high-stakes investigation into their business is exposed, father and son are pushed into an unexpected situation that threatens the family's entire livelihood. Congrats to both Shola and Ramin. See the announced TIFF lineup so far, and tune into the blog throughout August as more TFI alumni may surface as fest's titles continue to be announced.
