TFI Alumni Win At Sundance 2013

The Sundance Film Festival announced their award winners tonight in a ceremony in Park City, Utah.

Six projects in the festival have received support from TFI and tonight four of those projects were recognized with awards.

Zachary Heinzerling, whose debut feature Cutie and the Boxer (TFI Documentary Fund) quickly became an audience favorite at the fest, won the coveted Best Director U.S. Documentary prize. The film looks at the life and work of painter Ushio Shinohara and his wife, Noriko. American Promise (TAA, Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund) received a U.S. Special Jury Award for Achievement in Filmmaking. Directed by Joe Brewster and Michèle Stephenson, the doc follows the 12-year journey of two African-American families and their children's differing education. (TAA), which sheds light on the tireless work of public defenders, won the Editing Award U.S. Documentary for Matthew Hamachek. And awarded earlier in the week, Andrew Bujalski's comedy Computer Chess (TFI Sloan Filmmaker Fund) won the Alfred P. Sloan Award.

Congrats to all!
