In the last few weeks a few of our alumni have launched Kickstarter campaigns. So we thought we'd breakdown the projects here: who's involved, what the projects are about and what kind of perks they're giving for your contribution.
Very Semi-Serious (TFI Documentary Fund) This film by Leah Wolchok and Davina Pardo goes behind the scenes of the New Yorker and introduces the past, present and future generations of cartoonists who create the iconic cartoons that have inspired, baffled—and occasionally pissed off—all of us for decades. The project's goal is $75,000 going towards finishing funds of the film. Perks include a signed print of a New Yorker cartoon by a cartoonist, personal portrait drawn by a New Yorker cartoonist and tickets to the NYC and San Francisco premieres.
Question Bridge (TFI New Media Fund) Co-directors Chris Johnson and artist Hank Willis Thomas traveled the country for four years collecting over 1,600 question and answer videos from over 160 black men asking significant questions of another black man they felt estranged them. They created a five-channel video installation that looked inside the black male consciousness. Now they are expanding their reach with an interactive responsive design platform created to facilitate a healing dialogue within a demographic. When finished, the Question Bridge website will use 21st century technology and social media culture to expose the true complexity, diversity and humanity of an identity group. The project's goal is $68,000 to build out the interactive site. Perks include attending a VIP lunch with actor Jesse Williams (an executive producer on the project), artwork from Hank Willis Thomas and become a featured speaker during the opening reception of an upcoming exhibition (domestic airfare provided).
First To Fall (Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund) For the last two years Rachel Beth Anderson has dedicated her life to covering the Libyan Revolution. For her debut film she follows two young Libyan rebels who give up their comfortable, stable lives in Canada to join the fight to overthrow Gaddafi. (Read our Artist To Artist interview between Anderson and director Nisha Pahuja) The project's goal is $20,750 towards finishing funds for the film. Perks include signed DVD before it hits streets, "Revolution swag" and a bullet casing given to Anderson during her time with the rebels.
