TFI Latin Filmmaker Workshops Stop In Brazil

Following its successful kick off at the Santiago International Film Festival in Chile, the TFI Latin America Media Arts Fund Filmmaker Workshops is now in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where the two-day collaborative lab aimed at educating, assisting and aiding five emerging filmmakers and media artists with the development of their feature documentary or hybrid works will be taking place over the weekend.

The following projects have been selected for the workshop in Sao Paulo:

O Arquipélago (The Archipelago) - Directed by Gustavo Beck O Arquipelago is a patient and penetrating portrait about a family that does not fit in with the image of neo-capitalist hypermodernity imposed by the country’s elites. An intimate chronicle on the rhythms of daily life in contemporary Brazil, the film opens a window onto an unfamiliar world and renders the quotidian strangely magical.

Divine Divas - Directed by Leandra Leal; Executive Produced by Carolina Benjamin The documentary presents eight artists, iconic of the first generation of Brazilian transvestites. The narrative is woven by file images, current interviews and skits of a show in which they sing, act and re-elaborate their life stories. The characters will be presented in the movie transitioning between reality and fiction, in scenes and backstage, as well as in everyday life.

Vil, Ma - Directed by Gustavo Vinagre; Produced by Max Eluard Wilma, an old sadomasochist writer, has trouble separating real life from fiction. Is she evil, a saint, or is she just role-playing?

The Paths of Batista - Directed by Julia Mariano; Produced by Leonardo Ribeiro Two people: a lawyer and a filmmaker. Two different realities connected through an ideal. A documentary journey on the Brazilian agrarian conflict.

Memento Mori - Directed by Haroldo Borges & Marcos Bautista; Produced by Paula Gomes After five years of having drifted apart, I met my brother again after the sudden death of our mother. I discovered that during the time that we didn’t see each other, he was talking to the dead. As I record his search for answers through the scientific phenomenon of trans-communication, this documentary will try to understand how death can give meaning to life.
