This month we sit down with Petra Costa, director of the acclaimed Brazilian documentary Elena (TFI Latin America Media Arts Fund alum), a hypnotic look at the loss of her older sister, Elena, when Petra was only seven years old. Mixing non-fiction and fiction, the film is a touching memoriam in which Costa dives back into memories of her sister through home videos, diary entries and rich cinematography. Costa talks to us about the making of the film and how she got brand names like Fernando Meirelles and Tim Robbins to support the film's U.S. release.
See the film in New York starting this Friday at the IFC Center.
