TFI LIVE, Episode #18

For the first segment of this episode we were happy to have a chat with the filmmakers behind Nas: Time Is Illmatic, One9 (director/producer) and Erik Parker (writer/producer). The two talk about the evolution of the project (a TAA alum) from being a highlight of Nas' seminal album at its 20th anniversary to being an exploration inside the memories and themes of Nas' legendary lyrics from the producers of the tracks, family and Nas himself. The film opens in theaters and streaming starting Friday.

(26:26) We also shine a light on a company that filmmakers should take notice of, especially if they are making social issue documentaries. The founder and CEO of Candescent Films, Lilly Hartley, took time out to stop by and talk about her company which is driven by "filmanthropy," meshing the power of film with important issues to ignite a conversation and hopefully create change. The company has done this through producing or giving support to such films as Who Is Dayani Cristal?, Fed Up, After Tiller, to name a few. We also talk to Hartley about the responsibility filmmakers have when making a film that has a social issue.
