Growing up in Colombia influenced Mauricio Leiva Cock to see the world in a different way. Reality, even though stark, was always infused with magical moments. When he began watching films, he quickly realized cinema's potential as a tool for change - its capacity to depict different ways of living, to expose different worlds. Sprinkled with dark humor and satire, he uses genre to tell stories that have real world ramifications. As a writer-director, Mauricio's short films and feature scripts have been in festivals and residences worldwide, including the Toronto International Film Festival Talent Lab, Buenos Aires Talents, Beijing and Huesca. He is the recipient of the TFI Latin America Fund, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Fellowship, the Colfuturo-Proimagenes Scholarship, the HSF McNamara Grant and graduated with Honors from Columbia University’s MFA in Film.

Mauricio is a founding member of Fidelio Films, producing collective of the 2012 Student Academy Award winner Under, the 2013 winner, A World for Raul and the Slamdance Audience Award winning feature, Copenhagen. He has just recently finished his new short film Los KaotiKos, is developing the TV Series The Isthmus for Dramax, and is co-writing the feature El Diablo y el Venado to be directed by Oscar Ruiz Navia (Berlin Fipresci Prize winner and Locarno Jury Award Winner). Currently, he is in production of Tomada, short documentary awarded the IDARTES fund and is in preproduction of Primo, short film winner of the Colombian Film Fund.
