Young Il Kim received his BA in economics from Harvard University and his MFA in screenwriting from USC School of Cinema-Television. An alumnus of the Film Independent Filmmaker Lab and a Korean Film Council Filmmaker Development Lab fellow, Kim received the CAPE New Writers Award and the grand prize at the 8th annual Bluecat Screenplay competition for his screenplay, “Hyung’s Overture.” A native of Seoul, Korea, Kim currently resides in New York City.
The eldest son of a Korean immigrant family gives up his career to manage the family’s convenience store, so that his brother may fulfill his potential as a world-class violinist.
