In 2017, an international student from China was kidnapped within her first weeks living in Illinois. As foreigners in an unfamiliar country, her family faces unexpected challenges as they spearhead a search to find her and attempt to seek justice.

Jiayan "Jenny" Shi

Director

Jiayan “Jenny” Shi is a Chicago-based documentary filmmaker and video journalist. She has been working on several projects including the ITVS-funded digital series PULLING THE THREAD and the 2019 Sundance award-winning AMERICAN FACTORY. Before Jenny came to the U.S., she worked with China Central Television and Shanghai Media Group.

Producer

Diane Quon worked at NBC and Paramount Pictures, last as Vice President, Marketing. Diane has produced the Kartemquin documentaries MINDING THE GAP (2018 Academy Award-nominated) directed by Bing Liu, LEFT-HANDED PIANIST (with arts critic Howard Reich), THE DILEMMA OF DESIRE by director Maria Finitzo and FINDING YINGYING directed by Jenny Shi.

Shilin Sun

Shilin is a cinematographer and writer based in LA. He's been working on the PBS Docu-series VETERANS COMING HOME and a Red Door Film production documentary on the female pilots during WWII. Shilin will finish his Cinematography and Directing MFA program from the ArtCenter College of Design in 2020.

Brent E. Huffman is an award-winning director/producer of documentaries. His work ranges from documentaries aired on Netflix, The Discovery Channel, The National Geographic Channel, CNN, and PBS. Huffman’s documentary SAVING MES ANYAK for Netflix, about the fight to save a 5,000-year-old Buddhist site in Afghanistan, won over 30 major awards.
