Kristy Guevara-Flanagan

Director, Producer

Kristy Guevara-Flanagan produced El Corrido de Cecilia Rios (1998), a short-subject documentary, chronicling the violent death of 15-year-old Cecilia Rios through the teens that mourn her loss. The film received praise at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival and was subsequently licensed by the Sundance Channel. Shcools, students, and youth organizations utilize the film to promote dialogue about violence. Guevara-Flanagan's extensive background as educator, filmmaker, and editor for television and film, demonstrates her commitment to creating projects that involve the voices of many community members - voices often unheard within the mainstream media. She currently serves on the board of directors for the documentary film distributor, New Day Films.

Dawn Valadez

Director, Producer

Dawn D. Valadez has worked directly with children, teens, families, and service providers for over 18 years. As a youth and social worker, she has used community service, media literacy, and production as methods fro young people to have a voice in their communities. In the San Francisco Bay Area, she cofounded a nationally recognized AmeriCorps program, BAYAC, documented in the film, Everyday Heroes (2000), by Rick Goldsmith and Abby Ginsberg. Valadez is a youth development specialist, consultant, and trainer for children and youth programs, as well as for community and national service programs.
