Out & About explores the social and cultural stigmas related to South Asian parents having homosexual children.  It deals with the severe social issues these families face whilst personally coming to terms with their children being gay.

Sonali Gulati

Director, Producer

Sonali Gulati teaches film production at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of the Arts. She has an MFA in Film & Media Arts from Temple University and a BA in Critical Social Thought from Mount Holyoke College. Gulati has made several short films that have screened at over one hundred film festivals worldwide including Canada, United States, Europe, Australia, and Asia. She has won awards and grants from foundations such as the World Studio Foundation and Third Wave Foundation. Gulati’s first documentary and most recent film titled "Nalini by Day, Nancy by Night" was screened at the prestigious Margaret Mead Film Festival in December 2005 and recently won the Director’s Choice Award at the Black Maria Film Festival.
