Elisha Miranda

Director/Screenwriter

A self-described "Puerto-Rican-in-Exile," Elisha Miranda was born and raised in the Mission, San Francisco. In 1991, she graduated from the University of California Berkeley with a dual degree in Ethnic Studies and English. She earned her M.C.P. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and her M.F.A. in Directing and Screenwriting from Columbia University. While at Columbia, Elisha won a Zaki Gordon Excellence in Screenwriting Award, was a recipient for three consecutive years of the Hispanic Entertainment Industry Scholarship, and received a Milos Forman Finishing Award. She also received numerous awards for her short films and which screened throughout the country and internationally. Her debut novel (about a multi-racial female hip-hop crew) will be released by Simon & Schuster in Spring 2006. Elisha is cofounder of Chica Luna Productions, a non-profit organization that seeks to support and develop women of color in entertainment media.

Sonia Malfa

Producer

Sonia Malfa is currently the program director for the Association of Independent Film and Video Makers. She comes from a Puerto Rican family in Buffalo, New York. In 1996, she received a B.A. in American Studies from the University of California at Santa Cruz and in 1999 earned her M.A. in American and Intercultural Studies from the University of Buffalo. Malfa has worked as producer on various film and video productions, including the ITVS documentary, Homecoming. Malfa also worked on La Sangre Llama, a documentary about Puerto Rican musical culture in Buffalo. It screened at the Women in the Director's Chair International Film and Video Festival and was broadcast locally on PBS. Sonia's other works include and In 2004, she co-founded Chica Sol Films, LLC where she is currently producing a documentary about the life of death row inmate Mumia Abu Jamal.
