The Salted Earth is a magical realist drama that answers the question: What will happen in Cuba after Castro? It follows the redemptive journey of a powerful Miami lawyer who is tormeted by nightmarish visions from his childhood as he returns to the island to recover his family's nationalized property, only to discover a terrible family secret buried deep in the past.
Director
Producer/Writer/Director René Simon Cruz is from Hoboken, NJ and has been crafting films for over a decade. After attending the School of Visual Arts in New York, René worked as assistant to directors Adrian Lyne and Bob Zemekis. The Academy Award winning documentary, Down & Out in America inspired him to make socially relevant documentaries such as They Speak of Hope, a film chronicling the church’s role during El Salvador’s civil war, for which he received a NEA Fellowship.More recently, Rene has been working as a producer on Independent Focus an interview show featuring directors Robert Altman & Terry Gilliam, Drive Time a half-hour comedy pilot starring Jack Black and Cross the Line a feature starring Ellen Burstyn and Taye Diggs. René also produced and conducted interviews for Beyond Borders, a documentary about John Sayles, shot in Mexico during production of Casa de Los Babys.
