James Christenson

Director, Director of Photography

James Christenson is a Mestizo-Minnesotan documenting the impact of migration, policy, and technology on Midwest families and communities. In 2013, the New York Times commissioned his headline short documentary RUNNING ON FUMES IN NORTH DAKOTA, leading to a feature documentary about his birth state’s boom and bust history, THE BAKKEN. As DP and editor, his 2017 documentary about mobile phone location tracking, HARVEST, screened at Hot Docs, BAMcinemafest, and more before an online release with The Atlantic. Recently, he collaborated with Somali-Minnesotan youth to produce RUMEE, a short documentary anthology, which screened for one year at the Minnesota History Center.

Brennan Vance

Brennan Vance is a Minneapolis-based filmmaker and 2017 McKnight Media Arts Fellow. Vance’s feature directorial debut THE MISSING SUN was selected as part of the 2016 IFP Filmmaker Narrative Labs and played at the Sofia Independent Film Festival, Wisconsin Film Festival and Ashland Independent Film Festival, where it was awarded a special jury prize. Vance recently served as cinematographer for the feature documentaries MEMORIES OF A PENITENT HEART (Tribeca 2016, PBS) and ROBERT KLEIN STILL CAN'T STOP HIS LEG (SXSW 2016, STARZ). His work as a Director of Photography for Twin Cities PBS has earned him three Emmy Awards.
