Brad Pruitt

About

Brad Pruitt is an award-winning director, writer and producer of documentary and narrative films. His made-for-television movies, In the Net (2002) and Skin Complex (2003) garnered a total of 7 Emmy and 1 Telly Awards. His three-part documentary series on gun violence, Guns, Grief and Grace in America (2002-2006), has screened in festivals and on public television, winning additional awards, including another Telly. Brad worked with educators, social workers, and community advocates to develop curricula to accompany the series for use in educational settings.

Brad is currently working on a documentary; working title Can You Hear Me? - which explores the resurgence of the "spoken word" community through interviews with prominent poets, academics and musicians. It focuses on how words have influenced the sense of community – from the most ancient oral traditions to today's popular culture.

Pruitt has worked in finance, as a journalist, a photographer, a writer, and a youth worker in public after-school programs. He has lived in Minneapolis, Dallas, Chicago and Atlanta, but now calls Milwaukee home. He is dedicated to community development through the arts, and has been working with the Film Wisconsin Task Force to establish an infrastructure for growing a creative community in Wisconsin.
