Logline

Inspired by the Quipu, the knotted thread communication system of the Incas, this participatory and interactive documentary connects phones to the web to collect and share first-hand accounts of people affected by Peru’s unconsented sterilization policy.

Rosemarie Lerner

Director

Rosemarie is co-founder and director of Chaka Studio. Her film work deals mostly with Peruvian reality and she is interested in the potential of participatory models and new media technologies to tell stories that can have a social and political impact. She holds MA degrees in Screen Documentary, and Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship from Goldsmiths University.

Maria is a Chilean documentary maker currently based in Chile after four years living in London where she studied at Goldsmiths University of London and founded Chaka Studio, a London based company producing documentary films and cross media projects. She is interested in the way transmedia projects allows a different way for audiences to engage with content, permitting more active participation in the storytelling process.

Sebastian Melo

Executive Producer

Sebastian is co-founder of Chaka Studio. His first project, From Afar, received the Grand Prix at the Santiago International Documentary Film Festival. He holds an MA in New Media from Goldsmiths University.

Ewan Cass-Kavanagh

CREATIVE TECHNOLOGIST

Ewan is a creative technologist based in London. Originally trained in fine art at St Martins College of Art and Design, Ewan's practice is informed by a critical, reflexive approach to technology. Ewan then graduated MA Creating Social Media at Goldsmiths, University of London, where he explored the web's potential for social change. He uses code to create social media systems for digitally excluded communities, and which could operate across high-tech and low-tech devices. He is now passionately developing this specialism and always looking for new, creative applications of technology to social issues.
